Artist Statement

I am a full time painter living and working in Chesterfield County, Virginia. I love the creative freedom abstract art gives me. When I start an abstract, I never know where it will take me; it depends a lot on my mood at the time. I work mostly in vibrant hues and use color as the starting point of my painting; the form follows from there. With the color, the painting creates itself and once a direction is established, I follow it through to completion.

My work combines my European past and my American present. My paintings are upbeat and symbolize the strength and positive attitude that are part of the American spirit and therefore part of my newfound life in the United States. My passion for bold colors comes from the German expressionists of the 1920s, especially Franz Marc; other influences are American artists Mark Rothko and Wolf Kahn.
