"My paintings present corridors of vibrant color, enabling the viewer to engage and explore multiple areas within the composition. The process begins with a variety of gestural mark making. I apply layers of oil paint and cold wax medium intuitively to create shapes using various colors constructing an architectural foundation. Subsequent layers are added for their complex visual interest building a history. I enjoy using unconventional tools like bamboo skewers, whisk brooms, and twigs to incise the surface revealing the previous layers. Editing is integral within my work. Often it redirects the painting as areas are excavated and others clarified. My attentiveness of the layers and the corridors they form, encourage the viewer to delve deeper throughout each painting exploring subtleties and nuances." -- Jo Farris
