Artist Statement

My creative work is primarily in the mediums of photography, printmaking and filmmaking. I especially enjoy exploring relationships and interactions among traditional forms and new digitally-based media. Typically, my artworks are expressions of an ongoing quest for peace and serenity.

The work I have submitted to the Within Reach auction is a composite of three separate stages of a monotype print; that is, it includes the original monotype with overlays of hand-rubbed digital ink transfers made from the second and third ghost prints.

Biography

I am a retired anthropologist/professor with a lifelong avocational interest in photography and film. I was trained professionally at Germain School of Photography in New York where I worked in media production and journalism before returning to university to pursue my anthropology doctorate.

I have showed photo works sporadically throughout my adult life. I have had eight solo or small-group shows and my works have appeared in a few dozen group shows in the past decade. I am a supporting artist member of artspace.
