Hibiscus Floating
Artist Statement
My work is inspired by landscape, usually a particular moment in a particular place. "Hibiscus Floating" recalls a fallen flower bobbing on the sea. As I was focusing on the flower, a huge sea turtle swam slowly towards me, reached up to the surface, delicately sucked the blossom into its mouth, then turned in a leisurely way, and swam on.
BiographyEducated in Scotland, where I studied Philosophy and Fine Arts at St. Andrews University, I have lived in Richmond since 1990. I continued my art education with classes at Duncan of Jordanstone College, now part of the Univeristy of Dundee, and at VCU. I have been a member of artspace Gallery since 2015. My work has appeared in juried shows and group shows in Scotland and Virginia, and I will have a solo show at artspace in September. aliceanneellis.com |
