Julia is a recent recipient of both a VMFA Professional Artist Fellowship and a Virginia Commission for the Arts Fellowship in Crafts. This work is part of a series which explores the forms and textures of the artifacts left in and on her body after joint replaced surgeries. Phone camera photos were taken of x-rays, bone scans, and scar tissue. These photos are digitally manipulated, enlarged, layered and then inkjet printed with fabric dye. The final fabric machine quilted in a way that uses the sewing needle like a drawing tool.
