Artist Statement
As We Are
I am a figurative painter whose imagery is informed through personal experience, memory and direct observation. The paintings comprising SCHOOL LUNCH, present images concerning the nature and passions of relationships. My goal is to create humanistic awareness in a framework which is universally recognized.
The SCHOOL LUNCH series is a pictorial essay of contemporary student life, in real educational settings. Contemporary cross-cultural issues and their emotional attitudes are explored in the shared experience of school lunch. SCHOOL LUNCH is generated from direct observation, drawing on location, afternoons in the lunchrooms of High Schools, University and College campuses.
Each individual, as well as those in group interactions, in my paintings is drawn in the moment. Everyone in the paintings is an actual person. The drawings are fast graphite/ pastel pencil drawings, created in ten – twenty minutes. These drawings are the genesis of my paintings. As part of my college exhibitions, I am often invited on campus as a 'resident/visiting artist'. This opportunity allows access to a wide scope of activities to record.
The challenges inherent in our diverse society surround us today. Visual images have the power to transform and enlarge our perceptions, as well as, confirm identity and validate experience. The SCHOOL LUNCH paintings seek to promote discussion and understanding of one another, while encouraging tolerance and acceptance.

SCHOOL LUNCH underlines perceptions which affirm cultural identity, brings together ideas espousing contemporary social justice, gender and political concerns while encouraging a belief in the quality of human spirit. My objectives include continuing to forge a bridge connecting a multi-cultural society with achievement; through cooperation and acceptance.
Artist Bio
Lisa DeLoria Weinblatt, New York City resident, received her B.A., Magna Cum Laude, with Art Department Honors, from Queens College / CUNY 1987. She received her M.F. A. at the School of Visual Arts, NYC, 1991; having studied with mentor, noted Pop artist, Robert Stanley. Lisa attended the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan's Broadway District, a music major.
Lisa has been awarded six National Artist-In-Residence Scholarships across the USA.
The Chief Curator and Deputy Director of the Norman Rockwell Museum, Stockbridge, MA, Stephanie H. Plunkett, comments of Lisa's SCHOOL LUNCH painting series "an extraordinary series of images, riveting... capturing the passions and complexities of human relationships and interactions."
Weinblatt's two painting series A MAN / A WOMAN and SCHOOL LUNCH have been exhibited in over 40 solo exhibitions and in more than 200 group exhibitions, throughout the United States. Lisa had collaborative artwork in the 2018 Armory Show, Pier92/94 and Fall 2018 Campus Artist at the university of Maine, Farmington and had a solo exhibition of SCHOOL LUNCH at the Delaplaine Art Center, MD in September, 2019.
Lisa has exhibited in over 50 museums, 40 Colleges and Universities, in over 25 public and private Libraries, as well as, over 25 Art Centers.
Images from the SCHOOL LUNCH painting series, have been both featured in exhibition and printed twice by the Nabisco Corporation, NJ, on their announcement for the exhibitions of 'Faces of America : Celebrating Diversity & Multi-Culturalism and Black History Month'.
"Focus On Woman", a national Cablevision LI 44 TV show, presents a half-hour interview with Lisa.
She has been awarded the Grumbacher Gold Medal, a member of NAWA, a Signature member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, an American Pen Woman and is listed in the "Who's Who of American Women", with a life achievement award.
Weinblatt's recent Artist Scholarship was as an Artist Collaborative Member of the LABA Program of the 14th Street Y in Manhattan. Her artwork received an excellent review in the NYC 'Forward', which can be seen on her website – www.lisadeloriaweinblatt.com
Lisa's artwork is in the collections of numerous Colleges, Universities and museums throughout America and Italy.
