Artist Statement

"Leaving the Beach" is Acrylic on canvas painting. It is the latest work from Brenda Sylvia’s Trails and Trees series. It was inspired by a favorite location near her Reedville, Virginia home. Brenda strives to create a special sense of place in her work. Brenda’s life recently dramatically changed when she returned to Virginia after a decade of living in the US Virgin Islands. This series focuses on the choice to explore new paths in our lives.

"Uncommon Snapping Turtle" is a mixed media sculpture created with driftwood, wire, and sea glass. It is a larger-than-life representation of one of the many snapping turtles inhabiting the wetland areas near her home by the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. Much of Brenda Sylvia’s artwork is inspired by her love of nature. Creating this turtle was definitely a labor of love.
