Memory Etched in Stone: An Ancient History of Pain
Artist Statement"Memory Etched in Stone: An Ancient History of Pain" is from a series inspired by the poetry of Maya Angelou. The series and this image recall Angelou's poem, "The Rock Cries Out to Us Today": "History, despite its wrenching pain,/ Cannot be unlived, and if faced with courage,/ Need not be lived again." This image is a photographic composite derived from photographs I have personally taken. It was then digitally layered and altered to become my personal response to Angelou's poem.
