Artist Statement

"My photographs examine the intersection between permanence and change; between existence and essence. Time marches on, bringing inevitable change, on an arc toward decline. When a thing or a place no longer exists, or its existence changes, how will its essence be remembered? I seek out places and things that continue to endure. My photographs make permanent these encounters that are immediately lost to time.

These photographs are a response to recent travels in Cuba. I am captivated by the dignity and beauty of not only the built environment, but also the people. In Cuba, change happens very slowly, allowing a rich patina to develop as the place and the people endure. These photographs seek to immortalize the beautiful patina of this place that faces an uncertain future."
