Artist Statement

"Autumn is Virginia at its finest. Squinty sunlight causes long cool shadows while warm shades of fire and earth mix with deep blue and ever-green. Deep silence is pierced by the call of grumpy blue jays as busy squirrels hide treasures and nosy dogs sniff them out. Grumpy adults grumble at the never-ending falling leaves while busy children happily pile them into fortresses of gold. It is my favorite time of year-filled with glorious contradiction. To capture it, oil and cold wax was the most logical choice. Applying layer after layer, waiting patiently for them to dry. Adding another and scraping some away until I found the buried treasures and glimpses of sunlight and shadow that make up my Virginia Autumn.

Virginia Artist, CB Burroughs, is a former scenic painter who, upon growing weary of the sheer physicality and temporary nature of set work, recently turned her attention to smaller works. Her work is highly influenced by her time spent in the world of theater with great attention given to the unique use of color and texture. CB resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and two naughty dogs, Simon and Izzy and is the proud mother of two grown ( and still slightly naughty) children."
