Everitt Clark presents "Cities in the Air," black and white silver gelatin contact prints, in our Helena Davis Gallery. Clark describes that "during a visit to Belle Isle, I was stuck by the many layers of its landscape; natural and man-made, past and present." His exhibition addresses the idea that "Richmond is not one city, but rather countless 'cities in the air,' the ruins of previous centuries jumbled up with the soon-to-be ruins of our own." Using large format negatives to create his gelatin prints, Clark's labor-intensive means of printing forces him to create slowly, putting contemplation into both the images and the process. This thoughtful examination of subject and process in his nationally exhibited photography is also integral to his decade-long position as a private tutor in Northern Virginia.
