April Flanders presents "Unchecked," featuring monotypes and a site specific installation of prints, in our Main Gallery. In her large-scale installations, seemingly floating along the wall’s surface, the colorful, exquisitely-crafted cut prints and monotypes reference "the ramifications of globalization," and the "global issue of invasive species, both animal and botanical." Flanders describes that the pieces in "Unchecked" were "time and labor intensive, which mirrors the time- intensive and often impossible task of eradicating these invaders." Flanders received her BFA in Studio Art and BA in Spanish from Florida State University and her MFA in Printmaking from Arizona State University. Exhibiting nationally since 1996, Flanders is currently an Associate Professor at Appalachian State University.
