Sukenya Best, local educator and artist will display her exhibition "Dancing Ink" in the Main Gallery. Her lush, large-scale monoprints will be suspended from the ceiling to allow visual access to both sides of the work. Best is a Style Weekly 2013 Women in the Arts Honoree, whose visual arts background runs parallel to her passion for dance. The imagery for her work is a combination of dance and print, with recurring symbols of dancing footprints. Her works, each 8 feet by 5 feet, are "propelled by an appreciation for color, music and dance," are an "autobiographical link to (her) family’s history in the Caribbean Islands, New York City and Central Virginia." Best received her BFA from VCU’s Dept of Painting and Printmaking, her MFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and has been featured in the international publication "Studio Visit Magazine."
