Cahier de Dessin: Paris 1987
Being able to wander the city's museums at will, the artist spent hours and hours sketching from sculptures in such museums such as the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay and the L'Orangiere. A natural flow between pencil gestures and ink shadows began to develop. Another unexpected but also welcomed flow emerged; an on-going dialogue about art, politics, culture and history with those passing by.
Small Space: Richmond 2012
Now a quarter of a century later these sketches are dusted off and re-presented to create a new connection between place, artists and space. These works, done by the artist exhibiting in "Layers, Stages and Cycles" depicts Paris, the city that inspired the artists of "The French Connection" as they lived and worked there last spring. Using the unique confines of the newest gallery at Artspace, Kathy Calhoun presents this exhibit in an off-beat way that will envelope today's passer-by, hopefully creating a new dialogue.
