The history of books is the evolution of thoughts through changing forms. Humans have been creating books ever since they drew on the walls of caves. Book forms through the ages have included clay tablets, inscribed walls, scrolls, fans, sewn pages between hard and soft covers, books on tape and digital books to name a few.

The books in this show incorporate classic bookbinding techniques, but these techniques have been redefined. Traditional materials have been used for most of the books, but the overall construction has been altered.

The books in the piece "Stacked" have leather covers and are bound with waxed cord with a hand sewn, exposed binding. Some of the books in the show can be reconfigured to change their form. Additionally, the lack of text in some of the pieces is intentional in order to communicate the concept of the book as sculpture.

As we further redefine the concept of the book into an art form, we do not lessen the literary importance of the book in the history of change, but rather project a traditional concept into the world of the visual arts-changing again one form of expression into another.
