Statement
My work is comprised of large-scaled, three-dimensional pieces that are to be mounted directly into corner walls of rooms. The forms are made with canvas board and the structures are made with wood. Eeach piece is divided into several sections which are assembled together to make one whole, united piece.
As a civil engineer, I have always been fascinated by massive structures such as large bridges and tall skyscrapers. This fascination led me to the idea that I could create something that could give the perception of immenseness. The challenge to defy the laws of the universe has always been strong inside of me.
Through sculpture, I am not particularly interested in creating 'objects'. My intention is to create space: a space that implies that what we see may only be a part of something much bigger, space which reaches deep and beyond without end in sight.
My works are connections between the room where the sculpture is situated (which has defined, tangible limits), and an unknown world where limits and dimensions do not exist.
With Einstein's developments in relativity theory, space is no longer conceived as three-dimensional, and time is not even classified as a separate entity. They are both deeply and inseparably connected and form a fourth dimension called spacetime. Each of my pieces is dynamic and inward moving. The flowing movement which begins on the outside is then lost inside the sculpture which leads you into this fourth dimension of spacetime.
My works also seek to reflect the juxtaposing relationship between the sense of complexity and the simple order of the space around us. My representation of the universe as a manifestation of geometric forms in perfect harmony with each other and with a rational order is one of the principal aspects of my works. The spectator is invited to take part in the exploration of the unknown, the mysterious, and the search for infinity: a voyage which I hope turns out to be both stimulating and fascinating.
