Juror's Statement:
"All of the artworks submitted for radius250 were outstanding, which made my job incredibly difficult. I frequented the on-line submission pages and went over selections time and time again. Essentially I tried to select works that I felt would situate themselves well next to one another in the gallery space and tended to chose works that were more cerebral and/or psychologically driven. Mentally as I arranged the show with floor plan and images in hand, I opted for works that I kept coming back to over and over again -- those works that acted on me, that I wanted to revisit and physically see in 'real life' in the space. That is what is so hard about evaluating these types of juried exhibitions. As a curator you want to amplify artworks, or contextualize them, especially for a novice viewer, so that an audience sits longer with the pieces in hopes that you can help conjure interest in a particular artist, or just with contemporary art in general. The cohesiveness of the exhibition relies on how objects visually or ideologically operate with one another, so as a curator you have a responsibility to collectively assess how this might happen, despite that an individual artist might have a strong, overall body of work. There are many fantastic artists that submitted this year and I wish we had the room to highlight more of their works."
