DANAFROSTICK |
Another View" July 6 - 29, 2001 Large landscape paintings with allegorical frames Opening Reception
Dana Frostick’s paintings in the "Formations: Another View" series are representational, large-scale oils on canvas, with mixed-media frames. Their images, drawn from the Grand Canyon, are conveyed in layers of contrasting colors applied in a loose and gestural fashion. After completing the paintings, the artist re-viewed each painting, finding hidden images and stories within each piece. These subliminal themes are represented in her allegorical frames, mixed media creations which speak about another view inside each work. This desire to redefine and control the natural state of the painting is a symbolic expression of mankind's attempts to dominate and control his environment. |
